Executives of the PDP at the states level were chosen mostly through affirmation during Saturday's congresses, according to findings by our correspondents across the states.
The state congresses, which were held a week ahead of the national convention, mostly ratified sets of executives already chosen by party leaders and no elections were held.
Reports also show that state governors in the PDP have succeeded in retaining their grip on the party at the state level, as most of the new executives are loyalists of the governors.
In Gombe, Kwara, Jigawa, Plateau, Yobe and Bauchi, as well as in most other states, there was no voting and only one set of contestants were presented to delegates for affirmation.
Former PDP chairman Mr Jack Gumphi retained his seat in Gombe State after an affirmation process. Congress committee chairman Alhaji Salisu Dabo said the new leadership emerged through consensus. Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu emerged deputy chairman, with Alhaji Buba Sharu as secretary.
Others are Abubakar Bako (treasurer), Miss Asma'u Iganus (organising secretary), Kabir Baffa Jauro (youth leader) and Hajiya Sa'adatu Sa'ad (woman leader).
In Yobe, a factional congress led by Minister of State for Finance Yerima Nagama was held with leaders emerging through affirmation. Alhaji Lawan Gana was named chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Jajere is deputy chairman, while Alhaji Ali Dika was returned as secretary.
But outgoing PDP chairman Alhaji Abba Gana Tata said the congress held in Gashua was null and void because the state and national leaders of the party had decided to postpone the congress.
The PDP national convention is scheduled for Saturday in Abuja, with Alhaji Bamanga Tukur still being considered the front runner for chairman.
