The PPRO of Benue Police Command, ASP Ejike Alaribe has disclosed that 60 persons were arrested in connection with the mayhem in the State on Thursday. He disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen yesterday in Makurdi.
Alaribe said those apprehended allegedly played key roles in the crisis that led to the looting and burning of the corporate headquarters of the Benue Internal Revenue Services, BIRS.
He disclosed that various items that were looted by the hoodlums were also recovered, some of which included air conditioners, motorbikes, computers, office chairs and tables, LCD televisions, laptops and various office equipments belonging to the BIRS.
The PPRO said the Command is still combing parts of Makurdi town to ensure that all those involved in the crisis were arrested, adding that the Police would continue to carry out the raids until all items looted were recovered.
According to him, "The process of search, recovery and arrest of those behind the mayhem is ongoing and I can assure you that we will do our best to ensure that we recover more of the items just as we will ensure that the culprits are apprehended".
He further stated that the suspects will be made to face the law on completion of investigations into the matter.

The accident sparked an angry reaction from students and 'okada riders who mobilized to the scene in protest of the accident.
The protest however degenerated when armed hoodlums hijacked the crisis, making bonfire on the ever busy Makurdi-Gboko highway and also set ablaze the cooperate headquarters of the Benue Internal Revenue Service BIRS after property worth hundreds of Millions of Naira were carted way by the mob.
The hoodlums also pulled down all the solar powered street lights on the highway just as they set cars, motorcycles and the power generating sets belong to the BIRS ablaze.
