The Abia State Government is considering a downward review of the tuition paid in the Abia State Polytechnic in Aba.
The state governor, Theodore Orji made the announcement in Aba on Friday while inaugurating a pedestrian bridge built at the polytechnic on the Aba-Owerri Road.
"There will not be any discrimination in the fee, whether you are from Abia or from other states, you will all pay the same fee."
Orji who regretted that many students had died while attempting to cross the ever-busy road, said that the bridge was built to save the lives of students.
He admonished the students to make effective use of the bridge, pointing out that the barricade on the median of the road was built to compel usage by students.
In an address of welcome, the Chairman of the Polytechnic's Governing Council, Chief Mba Ukariwo, said that the bridge would enhance safety of students.
Ukariwo said that the polytechnic lost four students who were knocked down by moving vehicles in front of the polytechnic last year.
He commended Orji for providing what was required by the NBTE in order not to declassify the institution to a monotechnic.
The President of the Student Union Government, Mr Awa Nmaju, said the construction of the bridge would forestall fatal accidents in front of the school.
He thanked the governor for his support to the institution in facilitating the introduction of more engineering courses.
The governor also inaugurated the Dan Fodio/East Road, Old Express/Samek Road and Ukwu Mangoro Road, which had been impassable for more than 15 years. (NAN)
