The police on Monday arraigned a 24-year-old mechanic, Chinweuba Nwere, before a Karu Upper Area court over alleged criminal breach of trust and car theft.
The police prosecutor, Mr Samuel Bulus, told the court that the crime was reported by one Adebayo Alao of plot 7, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.
Bulus said that the complainant entrusted his Honda Accord car, 2010 model, valued at N4 million to the accused for repair on February 20.
He said that the accused was instructed by the complainant to fix a fuse in the car with an agreement of coming back later in the day to collect the car.
The prosecutor added that the complainant did not meet the accused nor his car when he returned to pick up the car.
He told the court that the complainant, after searching for the accused for five days, saw him, but was told that the car was stolen from the mechanic's workshop by unknown men.
Bulus said the accused also failed to inform the police of the theft, rather, he ran to an unknown place before he was arrested by the police.
The two-count charge contravened sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged charge, while the Judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, granted him bail in the sum of N4.5 million with a surety in like sum.
Kagarko ordered that the surety must be a reasonable and responsible person residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
He then adjourned the case till May 16, for further hearing. (NAN)
