If there is any Nigerian newspaper that frankly tells the true story about how pitable, retrogressive, frustrating and disappointing our situation is, it is The PUNCH. In fact, it is primus inter pares among other national dailies.
Abimbola Adelakun's piece, "Saying it as it is (not)", Thursday, March 29, 2012, was another pointer to the rare courage of the newspaper's celebrated columnist for telling the truth about how other countries perceive us as a nation whose leaders intentionally refuse to accept the failure of Nigeria in all ramifications such as lack of stable power supply, decay infrastructure, abject poverty, poor health sector, spiral inflation, comatose economy, insecurity and penchant for corruption (with impunity) by those in the corridors of power.
With all these challanges prevalent in our country, and which citizens and investors from other countries know about Nigeria through the world wide web information highway, it would not take a rocket science intelligence to know that we are a hard-sell for Direct Foreign Investment!
Let us first fix things properly at home before we start the globetrotting, looking for prospective investors. No prudent investor will invest in an environment of business uncertainty.
