In their Easter messages, governors Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Peter Obi (Anambra), Theodore Orji (Abia) Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos) former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President David Mark, and an Action Congress of Nigeria chief in Kwara State, Mr. Dele Belgore, urged Christians to use the Easter season to reflect on the situation of the country.
Also, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Saad Abubakar, General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi; Primate of Aladura Communion Worldwide and Archbishop of the Church of The Lord Worldwide, Most Rev. Rufus Ositelu; and the Christians Ministry of Reconciliation (Grace and Truth Church), Bishop John Ogu, called on Nigerians to pray for God's intervention in the problems facing the country.
Uduaghan said, "As we share in this festival with our friends and family, we should all be reminded of the love and compassion that characterised the life of our saviour, Jesus Christ, by imbibing His teachings on piety, love and humility."
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, Amosun said the fact that Jesus Christ paid the supreme price to save mankind was enough reason for all to repent of their sins and reconnect with the almighty God.
Fashola said, "The greatest legacy that Jesus Christ left for us is the legacy of love and sacrifice.
" I believe the best way we can carry on that legacy is to fulfil our obligations to the society."
Obi and Oshiomhole, called on Christians to hold fast to the teachings of Jesus Christ and renew their commitment to the service of God and humanity.
Obi urged christians in the country to be law-abiding and respect constituted authority.
In his message, Oshiomhole urged Christians in Edo not to forget the profound spiritual essence of the season, as they rejoice and celebrate with families, friends and communities.
Atiku said nation building called for huge sacrifice and fellow-feeling both from the leaders and the led.
In a letter addressed to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, President, Christian Association of Nigeria to mark the Easter celebration, the Sultan said, "We should mobilise our followers to cultivate those values and virtues extolled by our great religions: Christianity and Islam.
"In particular, we should stress the virtue of personal integrity which teaches us not to cheat, not to steal and not to take or give bribes."
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Onadeko Edward, Ositelu urged all to embrace agape love that transcends all challenges, saying true love among everybody regardless of class, religion and creed goes a long way to bolster coexistence among the nations of the world.
Orji urged Christians to use the period to pray for the nation.
Kumuyi urged political leaders to always fulfil their electoral promises while Belgore stressted the need for Nigerians to live in peace.
