Job Title: SARD-SC Project Coordinator

IITA is looking for a SARD-SC Project Coordinator to manage a project that is working on Cassava, Maize, Rice and Wheat in 20 African Countries. The project will focus on four components: 1) Generation of agricultural technologies and innovations, 2) Sustainable dissemination and adoption of agricultural technologies and innovations across the value chain, 3) Sustainable capacity strengthening of project stakeholders and 4) Efficient management of the project.
Position/Responsibilities
• Ensure timely dispatch of the necessary resources to IITA, AfricaRice, ICARDA and IFPRI.
• Liaise and follow up with the four Crop Scientist/Managers to develop annual work plans for all four sub-projects and monitor progress towards outputs and ensure their timely completion.
• Receive reports from each Crop Scientist/Manager and prepare and submit a consolidated report at least every 3 months as required.
• Serve as resource person to the Project Stakeholder Committee.
• Liaise between other projects with similar objectives to ensure coordination of related activities.
• Represent SARD-SC in meetings and conferences.
• Be the contact for interaction with major stakeholder groups, including local and regional policy makers.
• Take lead towards improving inter-centre collaboration.
• Be an advocate to broaden project donor base, including linkages with similar projects.
• Organize SARD-SC meetings
• Liaise with Crop Scientists/Managers for publication of results and
• Any other task derived from the above or that naturally belongs to them.
Educational Qualifications
PhD in an area related to Agriculture.
Core Competencies:
• At least 5 years experience of working in Africa and at least 10 years experience in managing projects.
• Excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, and team building skills.
• Proven skills in project coordination and management.
• Demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams and partnerships in a cross- cultural environment.
• Excellent social skills, a collaborative style, proactive and innovative attitudes.
• Fluency in oral and written English, working knowledge of French would be an advantage.
• Willingness to travel extensively.
• Good contacts with NARS scientists in target countries.
