BENIN CITY—THE people of Igarra, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, have lamented what they described as marginalization suffered in the hands of successive governments in the state.
They called on their sons holding political offices both in the state and at the federal level to work collectively to ensure empowerment of their youths and also bring development to the area.
The community leaders at the second Igarra General Conference organised by the Etuno Youth Association, EYA, urged their sons and daughters holding political offices to forget their political affiliations and make the development of their community a priority.
Pointing out some of the areas the community had suffered marginalization, President of the Community Association, Mr Monday Orisaremi, complained that the establishment of an Institute of Management and Technology in the community was approved by the then Bendel State Government in 1980 but it never came to pass, rather the institute was established in another community in Edo South.
Orisaremi appealed to the state government to locate some faculties of the state Ambrose Alli University in the locality. He also called on the University of Benin authorities to do same.
The Senator representing Edo North senatorial district of the state, Senator Domingo Obende and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state, Oladele-Bankole Balogun, expressed their readiness to cooperate with the community leaders to explore the potentials in the agricultural and solid mineral bases of the community.
