Mr. Adoke's latest ploy is deployed to stave off criticism over the bungling of cases of Nigerian officials involved in the scam.
Last month Justice Abubakar Umar of an Abuja High Court dismissed the case against three officials for failure of the prosecution to arraign the suspects in court within one year. The three suspects were a former permanent secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu; retired Air-Vice Marshall Abdullahi Bello and Mohammed Bukari.
Sahara Reporters learned that the office of the AGF and some lawyers involved in the case had already pushed the accused to refund $11 million on a special plea deal last year. Our sources revealed that the team of lawyers said to be working with Mr. Adoke secretly took the money as a bribe and bungled the case.
Meanwhile, in the United States, two Britons and an American were sentenced by a Texas court for conspiracy to bribe Nigerians politicians and government officials with $180m.
