Pensioners in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka have called for probe of the administration of pension funds in the institution following the alleged seizure of about N331million arrears of workers’ benefits.
Members of the UNN branch of the Federal Universities Pensioners Association (FUPA) led by their Chairman, Chief Peter Okolo, made the call on Wednesday at a press conference in Enugu.
They also alleged that the bursary department headed by Mrs. Chineze Obi seized 10 months of FUPA’s check off funds and balance of dues amounting to N15million.
But the bursar, Mrs. Obi declined comment on the allegation when contacted on the phone.
She said was not authorized to speak on such issues.
Okolo, in his explanation, insisted that the benefits were reportedly remitted by Central Bank of Nigeria to the university’s pension account on December 24, 2011.
