Bissau - The second round of Guinea-Bissau's presidential election has been postponed from April 22 to April 29, the electoral commission announced on Wednesday.
The revised date for the re-run vote between between Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior and opposition leader Kumba Yala was announced by electoral commission chief Desejado Lima Dacosta at a press conference.
Along with four other opposition candidates, Yala rejected the results of the March 18 first round poll in the small West African nation that saw the prime minister take 49 percent of the vote, just short of an outright win.
Yala decried what he termed "massive fraud" and has already stated that he will not contest in the re-run, raising fears of political violence in the chronically-troubled state.
Campaigning for the second round is set to begin on Friday, wrapping up on April 27. - Sapa-AFP
