The Cross River State Government and the Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company Nigeria Limited have signed a contract for the construction of a four-kilometre dual carriage road valued at N6.9bn to link the proposed Calabar International Convention Centre.
The Special Adviser, Governor's Office, Mr. Nzan Ogbe, signed on behalf of the state, while the General Manager, CCECC, South-South and South-East, Mr. Lee Wang, endorsed the deal on behalf of his company.
Speaking after the ceremony, Governor Liyel Imoke, urged the contractor to be committed to the road project and ensure that it was delivered on schedule.
According to Imoke, the dual carriage road will commence from the Murtala Mohammed Highway to the CICC, and will provide access to the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort and open up the adjoining area, thereby cutting the 16-kilometre distance to Tinapa by 12 kilometres.
The governor said the road would be of economic value and would be installed with street lights to link the centre and boost activities at Tinapa.
He said the development was in line with his administration's determination to create alternative economy, especially in tourism and hospitality, where conferences, workshops seminars and retreats of international standard would be held in Calabar.
