The Kaduna State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Timothy Gandu, on Friday that federal institutions and banks in the state had over the years refused to pay taxes to the state government.
The commissioner said if the institutions and banks had paid their taxes accordingly, the state's revenue would have been higher than the current N800m being generated monthly.
Gandu, who stated this while briefing journalists, noted that the government had commenced talks with the affected federal institutions and banks with a view to making them remit the taxes to the state's coffers. He added that doing so would greatly boost the state's revenue.
"Most of the Federal Government institutions in the state have over the years failed to pay their taxes to the state. We are already talking. We are talking with the Ahmadu Bello University on that and we believe that if the other institutions pay their taxes as and when due, our revenue drive will definitely soar," the commissioner said.
