The Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, has berated the Peoples Democratic Party for alleging that Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola wanted to Islamise the state.
In a statement on Wednesday by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary, ACN, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party said the PDP's report was false and a figment of the party's imagination.
The party said, "The report that claims that Aregbesola wants to Islamise Osun State is stupid, idiotic and flows from the same thinking that has almost crippled the country in 13 years of PDP's rule.
"For a party whose members and ranking officials have been summarily implicated in the Boko Haram uprising, militants' confrontation, introduction and sustenance of kidnapping, political assassination, electoral roguery to now start crying wolf on such a baseless allegation, tells the level this cabal can go to muscle through their selfish interests."
It said given the desperation of the PDP to reclaim Osun, and indeed the South-West, it was not surprising that the party had resorted to a campaign of calumny to discredit the ACN states.
The ACN added, "We are not surprised that such childish approach is receiving the blessings of the rank and file of the PDP who work under the impression that Nigerians are perpetual fools that will tolerate the many antics of the PDP.
"We understand the PDP is scared of the frankness and no-holds-barred mien of Aregbesola and sees him and indeed the ACN as potent threats to their dream of everlasting rule to complete the ruination of Nigeria, which has been at a frenzy since their unfortunate coming in 1999."
