The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria on Friday described the report of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee in the management of fuel subsidy regime as 'a landmark.'
In a statement signed by its President and Secretary, Peter Esele and John Kolawole respectively, the TUC said the panel's report was not only timely but also far-reaching in its findings and recommendations.
According to the statement, the report named the culprits and also recommended penalties, including refunds from those identified to have syphoned public funds through the subsidy regime.
It said the report was a further affirmation that deep corruption existed in the subsidy regime of the downstream sector of the nation's petroleum industry, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
"Which is a further justification of the decision by Nigerians, as led by labour and civil society coalition, to embark on the January strike to reclaim Nigeria from those feeding fat through the petroleum price hike," the statement said.
The Congress called on the various government agencies responsible for implementing the findings and recommendations of the report to take immediate action on it.
"Nigerians and the workers want to see arrests made and people brought before the court of law.
"This will go a long way in assuaging the populace," it said, warning that those thinking of treading the same path to desist," it added.
It warned that anything to the contrary would cause restiveness and make people to believe that there was a compromise and an attempt to cover up the identified crooks.
