Title: Calls for Azazi’s removal unjustified– CAN leader
Post by: Punch on Apr 21, 2012, 08:00 AM
A leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the North, Prof. Dan Babayi, has described calls for the removal of the National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Azazi, as unjustified.

Babayi made this known in a statement made available to SATURDAY PUNCH on Friday.

He said, "Security is a complex issue; nobody in particular should be blamed or held responsible for its consequences.

"The call for the removal of Azazi over the security challenges in the country is unjustified and ill-advised.

"There is a need for cooperation between the civil society and security agents in order to rid the country, especially the North, of Boko Haram members and their activities.

"Security operatives are now taking firm control of the situation, unlike when the insurgence started some months ago."

He said security operations in the country had been systematically denigrated. He said the reasons for the violence were numerous and the vehicle through which the campaign was being orchestrated and waged was nothing but nebulous.
