Title: Seven feared dead in Kenyan flood
Post by: iolsa on Apr 23, 2012, 03:01 AM
Nairobi - Seven members of a church group have been swept away and are feared dead after a flash flood in a popular national park in Kenya, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said on Sunday.

The missing, members of a church youth group, were walking in a gorge in Hell's Gate National Park, close to Nairobi, on Sunday evening when the flood hit, KWS spokesperson Paul Udoto said.

"One body has been retrieved while search efforts to account for the missing six are ongoing despite the darkness in the gorges," Udoto in a statement.

"The rains resulting in the unexpected flash floods had fallen elsewhere and not in Hell's Gate and its environs," he added.

The gorges in Hell's Gate were used as a location for Tomb Raider, the blockbuster movie featuring Angelina Jolie.

Kenya's long rains have been delayed this year, but heavy rain and thunderstorms began in the Nairobi region on Friday. - Sapa-dpa
