PORT HARCOURT— YOUTHS, yesterday, for the second day, stormed streets of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, this time, expressing support for the implementation of the report of the House of Representatives Adhoc committee on petroleum subsidy.
It will be recalled that some youths under the aegis of the South-South Youth Leaders' Forum, had marched through the streets of the state capital, Tuesday, denouncing the probe. They had described it as a grand design by a section of the country to rubbish what they termed the reputation of the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison Madueke.
This time, youths under the aegis of Concerned Rivers Youths demanded full implementation of the report, adding that the probe should be made to cover oil operations in the country, before and during the current administration.
President, South-South Youths Alliance, Tamunotonye Briggs, said they were on the streets to insist that the right thing should be done.
The youths said that the outcome of the probe should not be made to go the way of previous probes in the country, which were swept under the carpet, adding that "this time around, anyone indicted by the probe should be prosecuted.
"We are asking that they don't just focus this probe on one person. Oil exploration activities started in 1956 at Oloibiri and people have been in charge of the sector since then. We have had ministers, presidents, heads of state and so on, we are asking that the National Assembly should go back, expand the scope of the probe and anyone found culpable must be made to face the music."
