GUNMEN suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Sunday, attacked the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Sintamari ward of Maiduguri, Borno State, killing Rev. Albert Naga and three worshippers at about 10.15 a.m.
Rev. Naga was administering Holy Communion on the church members when the gunmen alighted from a Golf Volkswagen vehicle to launch the attack.
Speaking on the incident yesterday in Maiduguri, Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Samuel Tizhe, said: "Suspected gunmen invaded one of the churches in Simantari ward and killed the pastor and two other church members, while holding a communion led by the Rev. Naga at about 10.15 a.m."
Tizhe said the gunmen fled in the same vehicle they came in.
An eyewitness and resident of Simantari told The Guardian that no fewer that four worshippers and the pastor (Rev. Naga) were killed in the attack.
The Joint Task Force (JTF) at the weekend had alerted residents that the Boko Haram terrorists planned to attack unspecified targets in Maiduguri metropolis, using vehicles painted in military colours and solicited information on the sect from the public on the sect members.
