BENIN – THE Ugbor Community Development Association, UCDA, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, has called for a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which its Youth Chairman, Mr. Sunday Idurobo, was allegedly murdered.
It will be recalled that Idurobo met his tragic end from bullet injury sustained from gunshot allegedly from the police two weeks ago, following a heated argument between two neighbours in the community.
However, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olayinka Balogun, told journalists that it was the late youth leader who shot at the policemen who were in the community to intervene in the crisis before the policemen shot back in self defence.
Giving an account of what transpired, the youth secretary, Mr. Christopher Ikuvbogie, claimed that they were rushing the Chairman who was hit by police bullet to Oriafoh Memorial Hospital, GRA, Benin, when they noticed a police Hilux vehicle pursuing them.
He said: "They blocked me then I reversed and suddenly they started shooting at us. I sustained bullet injury before we got to the hospital where the doctor confirmed Idurobo dead."
The youth secretary who said he was taken to Oloku, an outskirt of the city where some of the policemen threatened to kill him, said but for the prompt intervention of one of them, he would have been killed.
He alleged that the police removed the sum of N250,000, a set of generator and a car stereo from the car that was taking the deceased to the hospital.
