Calabar—WIFE of Cross River State Governor, Mrs. Obioma Imoke, has decried the alleged high rate of HIV/AIDS in the state, saying that the state being adjudged as such was unacceptable.
Mrs. Imoke, who declared open a three-day workshop on capacity building for wives of local government council chairmen and Local Action Committee on Aids, LACA, officials in Calabar, said the state believed in zero transmission, stigmatisation and HIV/AIDS related deaths.
She said: "Cross River State has indeed been adjudged one of the states in Nigeria considered to have a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. This is totally unacceptable to us."
The governor's wife noted that in December 2011, the state celebrated the World HIV/AIDS day with a sensitisation/advocacy walk and a gala night with the hope having zero transmission, stigmatisation, and HIV/AIDS related deaths.
"We vowed that Cross River State being the trail blazer in all things, including health care provision would ensure that we do all that we can do to meet the goal of the 'three zeros."
