The ad hoc committee in the Federal House of Representatives investigating the near collapse of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, has directed the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission SEC Ms Arunmah Oteh to appear before it by 10.00am tomorrow, after she failed to turn up today to answer allegations against her.
Chairman of the House ad hoc committee Rep Ibrahim Tukur El Sudi, who was visibly angered by the absence of the SEC boss read a letter sent to the committee by the SEC D.G on why she would not be able to attend today's hearing.
According to the letter, Ms Oteh said she was scheduled to attend a meeting of the Nigerian Economic Management Team, which was scheduled for yesterday (Monday) and today, she only appeared yesterday so as not to dishonor the panel's invitation.
Panel chairman Tukur El Sudi described Ms Oteh's action as arrogant and a way of belittling the panel's assignment. He quoted relevant sections of the constitution which empowers the committee to investigate, summon or take other such actions against any public officer or office whom the Nigerian state is found wanting.
