The Dean and Episcopal Vicar, Badagry Deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Rev. Fr. Edward Hartnett, on Tuesday advised Christians not to pay "evil for evil" to attract God's blessings.
Hartnett told the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview in Lagos that doing good was the source of joy and hope for eternity.
The priest, who was reacting to attacks on Catholic churches in some parts of the country, urged Christians to overcome evil with good.
“The blessing of God is the blessing of peace and that is what we should be looking out for. We must always seek peace for our families, our country and with God,’’ he said.
According to him, the time has come for Nigerians to speak and hear more positive things about the country to discourage negative image projection of the nation.
Speaking earlier during the Badagry deanery priests meeting, Hartnett said that the gathering was a forum to seek the face of God and examine crucial issues.
“We have gathered to pray for our country and also to seek the face of God. We must continue to uphold the dignity of our country,” he said.
NAN reports that more than 50 priests from catholic parishes within the deanery were present at the meeting.
