Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi, has called on the Kogi government to establish a professional football club which can play in the Nigerian Premier League.
Keshi who spoke on Sunday while on an inspection of facilities at the newly-constructed Lokoja Confluence Stadium said such a club would help launch the state into the international arena.
"The state should be able to establish or fully support one of the clubs in the state to the Premier League level,'' he said.
The Super Eagles chief coach decried the level of football clubs in the state, which are all still playing at the amateur and pro-league stages of Nigerian football.
He commended the foresight of the state government in constructing the stadium which has a 25,000-capacity and called on the government and sports-loving individuals to ensure its proper maintenance.
Keshi pointed out that bad maintenance culture was the bane of sports facilities in the country and urged the state to curtail the trend by ensuring that the stadium was properly maintained. NAN
