Bishop Nathan Nyom of All Saints Cathedral, Anglican Communion, Makurdi, has suggested the formation of a National Peace Commission to find solution to insecurity in the country.
Nyom told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Makurdi that such a commission would formulate policies for the regulation of relations among the various ethnic nationalities in the country.
He said that it would be the responsibility of the commission to outline holistic measures in dealing with security issues in the country.
Speaking further, Nyom said that security matters were complex and needed a holistic approach to resolve. He expressed regret that the absence of such a commission had made political leaders to take decisions that were not in the overall interest of the people.
He said the deployment of military troops to resolve internal conflicts had only succeeded in militarising the society.
The cleric called for the immediate formation of the commission as a policy institution vested with the constitutional backing to handle such matters. NAN
