LAGOS — MARITIME Workers of Nigeria, MWUN, has charged workers in the sector, especially dockworkers, to be vigilant in the course of their duties and ensure that unscrupulous importers do not smuggle weapons through the ports into the country.
President-General of MWUN, Mr. Anthony Nted, who addressed maritime workers at Apapa Ports, Lagos, yesterday, as part of the union's leadership tour of ports in the country, said the security of the nation and the citizens should be the responsibility of every well-meaning Nigerian.
Nted, who said they had toured Warri, Onne, Port Harcourt and Calabar ports with similar message, noted that dockworkers who off-load containers were in a better position to know the content of a container irrespective of the importer's claim.
