IBADAN – GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said the ban on the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state would not be lifted for now.
He also warned the union that since the ban had not been lifted, all the activities of members of the union were illegal.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde, he said the government would soon release a white paper that would determine the fate of the union.
This came as the Oyo State Police Command cautioned the union members against causing anything that would rupture the peace in the state.
The command, through its Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, warned all factions in the union to take caution as it would deal decisively with anybody who causes breakdown of law and order in the state.
Meanwhile, the government also warned residents of Government Reserved Areas,GRAs, and estates to stop closing gates that serve as link roads.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Bosun Oladele, said government had observed that gates to link roads in most GRAs and residential estates in the state capital were usually closed during day time, thus halting necessary access to those areas.
He said most of the link roads also serve as alternative routes to motorists due to the on-going construction of roads and bridges in some parts of Ibadan metropolis.
Oladele stressed the need for landlords and residents' association to employ the services of security guards to man the gates leading to their residents rather than permanently closing those gates, particularly during the daytime.
