IKEJA- Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, to step aside pending the final conclusion of the criminal charge against him before a Federal High Court, Lagos, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The party also said it was in the process of restructuring to make sure the party works ahead of  the 2015 general elections.

At a briefing, in Lagos, yesterday,  state chairman of PDP, Captain Tunji Shelle (rtd), queried why the Assembly should be shut down anytime the Speaker was appearing in court for the criminal trial, describing same as "unacceptable."

He called on him (Ikuforiji) to step down pending the end of his trial.

"We call on the Speaker to step aside pending the final adjudication of his trial. The current style, whereby the legislature is always shut down any day the Speaker is to appears in court for trial is holding the state to ransom and unacceptable.

"The House should not be shut down; he should respect the people of Lagos and step aside. There is no vacuum, his deputy can act pending the end of the trial."

He enjoined all members of the party to work in tandem with the state executives, saying "the era of rumour mongering, mudslinging, creation mischief and all manner of anti-party activities is gone and this should be clear to all our members because these tendencies have not helped our party. "
