The Inspector-General of Police IGP MD Abubakar NPM, mni, has said that the Nigeria Police will continue to do its best to ameliorate the conditions of families of policemen who died in active service.
The IGP who was represented by DIG Suleiman D. Fakai, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge 'A' Department, stated this in a brief ceremony held in Force Headquarters, Abuja
The ceremony witnessed the presentation of cheques worth N34m to 82 families of deceased policemen, under the Nigeria Police Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme.
IGP further stated that the token given may not be enough to cater for all that is needed by the families/dependants left behind, but the gesture and commitment on the part of Government was done to remember the families of those who paid the supreme sacrifice for the services they rendered to their fatherland.
The IGP advised the beneficiaries and next-of-kins to make judicious use of the money and to always guard against fraudsters who may come with all kind of antics to defraud them.
The IGP used the opportunity of the ceremony to offer an automatic teaching appointment to one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nwuju Joy, a widow, who is a graduate of Agricultural Economy. He also extended this benevolence to all beneficiaries with requisite qualifications for other jobs.
Nigeria Police Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme is set-up and designed by the Force to assist families of police personnel who either die in line of duty or those that suffer permanent deformities in the course of performing their assigned duties.
