Title: NDLEA seizes 2,476Kg of hard drugs in Kogi

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (ND LEA) seized 2476.204 kilogrammes of hard drugs, including Indian hemp, cocaine and heroine in Kogi State between January and June this year.

State commander of NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Bello who gave the figure, disclosed that 30 suspects were arrested within the same period,adding that seven of them eventually were  charged to court and convicted. "The agency also seized over 2.3 psychotropic substances in the period under review," he said.

He, however regretted that delays in the court process have not enabled the agency  to arraign some of the convicts.

The NDLEA boss spoke while briefing newsmen at the Lokoja office  yesterday.

He solicited support for the NDLEA to enable it carry its assignment and commended Governor Idris Wada for the assistance to the agency including donation of utility vehicles which has helped to enhance the movement of staff.

Alhaji Bello who spoke of the need for collective efforts in the fight against drug abuse, noted that the agency was extending the battle to schools through the establishments of drug free clubs  to protect them from the dangers of drugs and the consequences of using them.

He observed that drug abuse  was responsible for all forms of crime confronting the society today, adding that its control would help eliminate crime.
