Quantum computers are still decades away but a software that can run in such computers is ready for use. The software that can simulate all possible interactions between two colliding particles can also be used to model how the universe evolved after the Big Bang that is, formation of quarks then protons and neutrons. Such like complexities are only possible to simulate with quantum computers which relies on quantum physics.
Even though quantum computers might take some time to be used, the theoritical model is with the scientist and when you hear universal quantum computers, then expect computers with quantum processor switches that could exist in both "on" and "off" states simultaneously enabling them to consider all possible solution to tasks at once.
