INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been dragged before a Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged infringement on its patent right in the contract awarded for the supply of Direct Data Capture (DDC)machines.

The plaintiff, Technocrat Consult and IT Systems Limited, claimed in its statement of claim, that the contract awarded to Zinox Technologies Limited, Haier Electrical Appliances Corporation and Avante Internaional Technology Inc for the supply of the DDC machines include components of its invention – a technique that prevents multiple registration, using biometrics technologies – on which it has patent right.
Named as defendants in the suit now before Justice Okechukwu Okeke, and in which the plaintiff is demanding N8bn damages, include are INEC, Zinox, Haier and Avante.
