UGHELLI—MOVEMENT for Niger Delta Peaceful Coexistence, has appealed to the Federal Government, Izon traditional rulers and political leaders to intervene in the impasse between it and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The group in a statement alleged that their representative in the commission, Mr. Konboye Ejoko, who is Director Finance and Administration, was not carrying them along, despite all entreaties.
The statement signed by Mr Crusade Ayowei and Mr Ken Mezeh respectively, said "we were initially carried along because our objectives is to restore, maintain and preach peace as stakeholders, which we have been doing and NDDC in recognition of our role empowered and encouraged our group through provision of petty jobs and community-based contracts to keep the organisation going.
"Things however turned sour when the new executive came on board as our representative and turned their back on us, which is contrary to what their predecessors did.
"Since our new representative came on board, he ignored us and never allowed us to see him, but rather harassed us with security men, even though we congratulated and paid him solidarity visit when he was appointed".
He does not pay attention to our organisation in all our appeals and requests, neither does he answer our phone calls in an effort to speak with him.
"We do not want to remain un-empowered, jobless and be tempted to be restive in the area anymore. Our NDDC man should rather build on our existing relationship with the NDDC and not to destroy it.
"Failure, neglect and insensitivity to our call will leave us with no other choice than to do what we think is necessary and appropriate for us so that our plight is addressed," they added.
