LAGOS — Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, has called on the Federal Government not to manipulate the House of Representatives' report on the oil subsidy probe.
Reacting to the allegation against House Committee Chairman on Fuel Subsidy Probe, Mr. Farouk Lawan, alleged to be involved in a $600,000 bribery scandal, Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said the allegation against Lawan should not stop government from prosecuting the oil thieves.
He said: "The fact that Lawan was alleged to have collected $600,000 bribe to influence the report does not discredit the whole report. That the committee leader was accused of misconduct is a separate case from the outcome of the probe. There are two different cases that should be treated differently."
He alleged that the Federal Government had shown some bias against the report and the resolutions of the committee from its inception and hoped that it was not another attempt to dust the probe report aside as this would be detrimental to the country's war against corruption.
"The recommendations of the committee are untouchable and must be implemented diligently, if President's sanctimonious position on his anti-corruption war is not a charade.
"The allegation might be an effort to shift the public gaze away from the report," and called for appropriate investigation into the bribery scandal, and prosecution of those found culpable."
