Okitipupa, Ondo State - Suspected kidnappers on Tuesday night abducted the 72-year-old mother of the former Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Mrs Maria Iwala.
Speaking to reporters in Okitipupa on Wednesday, the son of the victim and former council boss, Dr Dapo Iwala, said his mother was kidnapped at his residence in Erinje in the council area.
"She was kidnapped at 7, Ilado Street, Erinje between 9:30 p.m and 9:45 p.m and my sister, Kemi Adewole, was the only one there when it happened.
" Two men had previously entered the house asking for one of my brothers who was not around.
"They left and came back armed with pistols which they used to hit Kemi on the forehead," he said.
Iwala said reports revealed that after his sister was knocked unconscious, the two men dragged his mother to a red Toyota saloon car parked outside the house with a driver and took off.
Confirming the incident, the Okitipupa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr Titilola Lasisi, said investigation into the incident had commenced.
"We have already started our investigation into the case since yesterday night and we are still conducting investigation,'' he said. (NAN)
