President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged world leaders on the need to evolve ways of ensuring sustainable growth for their people.
Addressing world leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio, Brazil yesterday, Jonathan called on developed countries to provide aid for developing nations especially in Africa. He said: "While we recognize that the developing countries have primary responsibility for implementing their own sustainable development agenda, there is no doubt that they need the support of the international community to achieve these objectives."
Jonathan declared the commitment of African leaders to the green economy policy that will ensure balance between growth and the environment.
Meanwhile, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has accepted invitation of Jonathan to visit the country before the end of the year.
Rousseff is expected to lead a delegation comprising of experts and investors, a statement from Jonathan's spokesman Reuben Abati said.
