The President's camp is said to be worried that the take over of Osun and Ekiti States by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) may adversely affect the President's chances of getting the PDP presidential ticket.
With the PDP governors who are campaign coordinators of the Jonathan's campaign out of office there are doubts that they may not be able to ensure that the state delegates vote for President Jonathan.
It was also learnt that Jonathan also met separately with Governor Bayo Alao-Akala and top factional leaders of the party in Oyo State on how the PDP will retain its grip on the state in 2011.
According to findings by The Nation, the South-West PDP leaders held a secret session with Jonathan at an official residence in Marina , Lagos .
Some of those who attended the meeting were Otunba Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, ex-Governor Olusegun Agagu, senators, zonal officers and former national officers of the party from the zone
It was gathered that the meeting was at the instance of the President who foresees a backlash of the losses of some states in the South-West on his 2011 aspiration.
The session was said to be designed to launch a counter-strategy to the rising political influence of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Investigation showed that the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State was hardly announced when Jonathan summoned the emergency meeting.
