Asaba—SPEAKER of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, yesterday called on the Inspector-General of Police, IG, Mr Mohammed Abubakar to ensure that adequate protection was provided for persons willing to offer useful evidence that might nail the former leader of the anti-kidnapping squad in the state, Mr Dickson Adeyemi, who was earlier arrested for aiding and abetting kidnapers in the state.
He was released by the police following alleged lack of evidence to prosecute him.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Asaba, to mark the first anniversary of the Fifth Assembly, the Speaker said that a high-powered panel had been set up after the leadership of the Assembly had a meeting with the IG, during his recent visit to the state.
He said: "A lot is going on but we still leave it to the Nigeria Police to ensure that they bring the culprits to book. The IG may have been quoted as telling people to come forth with evidence, which is fine, but let him also ensure the protection of those who intend to give the evidence and you will be shocked by the level of evidence that he (IG) will receive.
"We stand by our resolution, we are not shaking and we believe the right answers will come out soon if not very shortly."
Delta lawmakers had, recently, on the eve of the IG's visit, passed a resolution calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the IG to revisit the investigation of Mr Adeyemi, who was released by the police over lack of evidence to prosecute him for allegedly assisting kidnappers in the state.
