ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday said it arrested 69 suspected drug traffickers and seized 35.440 kilograms of cannabis otherwise known as Indian hemp in the last one year.
Speaking with Vanguard to commemorate the United Nations Day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, Commandant of NDLEA in the state, Dr. Ngozi Madubuike, said apart from the arrest of suspected drug traffickers, the command was able to prosecute six suspects successfully at the Federal High Court, Abakaliki.
According to Madubuike, the command was faced with the challenge of getting rural dwellers to cooperate with the agency in the fight against drug trafficking, lamenting that suspects apart from hiding in the hinterland, had devised means of bringing in drugs into the state through neighbouring states like Abia, Cross River, Edo, Anambra and Enugu states.
