The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has lauded herbal pharmaceutical practice in the country stating that the standard so far can be improve further.
Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, who spoke through a Director of the Agency, Mrs. E.M. Amuta stated this at the Kedi health care car awards and 6th year celebration in Ibadan, noted that there has been upsurge in the use of herbal medicines nationally and globally.
In recent years, the world health organisation states that 70 percent of the world's population depends on herbal medicine products as a primary source of health care.
To enhance the development of herbal medicine and facilitate its contribution to the National Healthcare System, the Federal Ministry of Health mandated all the states of the Federation to establish, Boards of Traditional medicine in 1994.
NAFDAC has encouraged the acceptability and accessibility of Traditional medicine in Nigeria through its regulatory efforts.
Speaking at the event, the president of Kedi health care products, Mr. Williams Zhao commended the Federal government for given them the platform and the enabling environment to operate.
Zhao noted that the organisation at inception had some economic challenges; but it was able to weather the storm and now provides quality services in the highly competitive market of herbal products.
Prince Samuel Okunade, South West Regional Manager of Kedi, Stated that the organisation has provided jobs for many Nigerians and lifting them from the shackles of poverty. "A case is the Kedi 2012 car award and 6th year anniversary being witnessed in which over 47 cars and eight houses were distributed to some distributors who excelled in 2011."
