Kano – The Kano State Sharia Commission has embarked on tours of markets to preach against price increases on goods and foodstuff during the Ramadan season.

Many traders increase prices of products, especially fruits, eggs and sugar when the Ramadan approaches

Malam Mahmud Yola, the Deputy Director of Public Relations Unit of the Commission, said in an interview in Kano on Tuesday that the agency had visited almost all markets to urge traders not  to increase prices.

Yola said the tour also involved reminding Muslims that it was an obligation for them to run their businesses in a manner acceptable to Islam.

He said, "we also remind them of the importance of paying alms to the less privileged to enable them to enjoy a portion of God's gift to them."

The official said the preaching team had so far visited textile, foodstuff, fruits and vegetable markets.(NAN)
