Context:
Nigeria Exams is the largest British Council exams business in the Sub Saharan Africa region. It administers exams in four subject areas: Schools, Professional/Vocational, Educational on behalf of UK institutions and IELTS. In 2011-12 we delivered roughly 65,000 exams to 25,000 candidates. The team comprises 20 people and are based mainly in Lagos with two in Abuja and three in Port Harcourt.
The SSA region delivers exams in over 20 countries from its offices in 16 of these countries. In 2010, we delivered a quarter of a million exams to over 100k candidates. Growth in the region is robust, but our challenges are many. Nevertheless, Exams teams are making solid gains in our 4 strategic priority areas, namely: improving business performance, improving quality, improving financial compliance and increasing impact.
The post holder will be part of a team of 3 who administer the growing IELTS Exams business ensuring quality and compliance as well as control of income and expenditure to deliver on target. Delivery will be in Lagos with approximately two sittings per month. Support will also be required for the delivery of tests in Port Harcourt and other centres in Nigeria.
Job aim:
To support Examination Services in Nigeria in delivering IELTS tests and to maintain them at the highest professional standards as set out in the British Council's EQS (Examination Quality Standards) and by the IELTS Partners.
Responsibilities:
• Pre-test administration for IELTS examinations in Lagos.
• Overseeing the taking delivery of examinations materials and checking them prior to tests commencing, packing and returning scripts daily, maintaining logs appropriately.
• Answering enquiries about IELTS tests
• Preparing candidate registration forms
• Exam registration procedures including receiving and collating registration forms for all Nigeria, entering and retrieving data on the registration system (IWAS/ESOLCOMMS), payments and tests correspondence including dispatch of results.
• Assisting IELTS Administrator in venue staff management including recruitment, training and monitoring.
• Test delivery
Delivering IELTS on test days as part of the IELTS team which includes:
• Logistical arrangements
• Supervision of venue staff
• Ensuring adherence test day procedures
• Venue management
• Post-test administration for IELTS examinations in Lagos.
• Using up-to-date knowledge of PSN and IWAS/ESOLCOMMS to generate test report forms and jagged profiles
• Effective delegation of duties when absent on leave or through illness etc.
• Shredding examination materials while recording this in accordance with PSN standards and keeping accurate records of the movement of live materials
• Assisting IELTS Administrator in venue staff creation and payment.
• Using customer feedback to improve service delivery.
• Stock keeping for IELTS materials
Maintaining logs of preparation materials
IELTS Examiner Management
Assist on recruitment, training, monitoring of IELTS examiners according to PSN standards.
IELTS Preparation Courses
• To manage the resourcing, marketing and managing future IELTS preparation courses run by the British Council in western Nigeria to TQS standards.
• To assist with recruitment and management of teachers for language/examination preparation courses.
IELTS Marketing
• To assist IELTS Administrator, CEM and DCEM in collecting qualitative and quantitative marketing data.
• To promote direct training in IELTS preparation to local education providers and teachers.
Finance
• To assist IELTS Administrator in compiling income reconciliations and to complete income reconciliations in the IELTS Administrator's absence.
• To record income correctly on the FABS system.
• To prepare income reconciliations for examinations preparation courses.
