According to New York(CNNMoney), several internet users whose computers are infected with a particular nasty virus will be unable to access the web as from monday.
Five years ago, a group of six Estonian cyber-criminals infected approximately four million computers world wide with DNSChanger(Domain Name System). As a result the FBI(Federal Bureau of Ivestigation) set up temporary severs to enable those infected to access the web and let them remove the virus. Till now, approximately 300,000 computers are still infected out of which 70,000 are from USA.
DNS is an internet service that converts user-friendly domain names into the numerical internet protocols (IP) addresses that computers use to talk to each other. The criminals learnt that if they can control a user's DNS servers, they can control what sites the userconnects to on the internet.
The FBI has decided to close down the temporary servers that has been giving access to the infected this monday. That means that for those infected, expect an intenet blackout this monday.
