Mr. Akomaye was giving Nigeria voice on United States soil to what has been reportedly widely in the international media that the commission had revised the charge sheets and would likely file the charges against Mr. Cheney in the next two weeks.
Mr. Cheney presided over Halliburton as CEO when the company doled out over $180 million in bribery payments to high level Nigerian officials to secure a $6 billion natural gas contract for Halliburton.
Ask what specific offences of corruption Mr. Cheney would be facing before the Nigerian court, Mr. Akomaye said they would be similar to the those of his successor, Albert Jack Stanley. He said the EFCC has concluded through its investigations that Mr. Cheney was aware of the massive corruption perpetrated by Halliburton in Nigeria , particularly since 1994.
