Scholarship Description: This post offers an opportunity to work on an exciting new project at the interface of basic and translational HIV/AIDS research. The project will exploit advances in imaging techniques and reagents to investigate the sites of HIV replication in infected patients. The project is led by Professor Michael Malim and Dr Stuart Neil from the Department of Infectious Diseases, together with Dr Julie Fox from the HIV/Genitourinary Medicine Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust, and colleagues from the Division of Imaging Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. The post is available for up to two years, and is funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at GSTFT and KCL. The successful applicant will be located in the Department of Infectious Diseases on the Guy's campus.Scientists and clinicians from the Biomedical Research Centres at King's, Imperial College London, University College London, Oxford University and Cambridge University have recently established a Multi-Centre UK-wide Programme for Investigating Strategies for HIV Eradication: called Collaborative HIV Eradication of Reservoirs: UK BRC (CHERUB). This project embraces some of the fundamental considerations for HIV eradication, and is central to CHERUB objectives. Specifically, we aim to establish methods for in vivo imaging of HIV replication sites in infected patients.
