BENIN CITY—CRISIS is brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo state, as a group in the party under the umbrella of the Edo State Stakeholders Forum, yesterday, gave a 48 hours ultimatum to members of the state Executive of the party led by Chief Dan Orbih to resign.
Besides, the group urged the Federal Government and the national leadership of the PDP, to disregard any lists of nomination to Federal Boards or any appointment by the leadership of the party in the state " as they have failed to represent the interest and wishes of PDP members which we belief the result of the July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state have clearly shown".
Their demands were contained in a communiqué signed by Mr. Kamin Asunogie, made available to Vanguard, shortly after their meeting in Benin City.
The group recalled that the party had lost all the elections conducted in the state since 2007, therefore said they lacked the capacity and leadership drive to lead the party "to any electoral victory which is the hallmark of the existence of a political party in any political system."
According to the communiqué, " we call on the National body to institute a probe panel to investigate the funding and finances of the party in the state in the past three years. Constitute and interim committee to over see the affairs of the party at the state level pending when congresses will be held to elect new officers".
The group further urged their members who decamped to the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state to return back " and join the efforts with us in rebuilding our great party through laid down constitutional means as there shall be an all embracing stakeholders meeting on Monday 23, July to chart a new chapter for our great party".
