After days of stalemate and stiff resistance by staff of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) against the resumption from suspension of the Director General of the commission, Ms Arunma Oteh's, indications have emerged at the weekend that the coast is now clear for her to resume. Daily Trust learnt that Oteh was at the commission on Friday in company of the Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala where they had a brief meeting with the staff.
Sources confirmed to Daily Trust that Okonjo-Iweala pleaded with the staff to accept Oteh's return as government was not in the mood to rescind its decision on her reinstatement while the workers reportedly asked to be assured that those that took part in the protest would not be victimized.
Embattled Oteh left with the minister after the meeting, Daily Trust was told. The meeting may now pave way for her resumption today.
Oteh has been in the eyes of the storm after a public spat with the House of Representative Committee on Capital Market over mutual allegations of corruption. She was subsequently sent on compulsory leave by the SEC board on allegation of graft in the prosecution of the commission's 50th year anniversary project that took place last year.
