ENUGU—CONCERNED National Diploma graduates of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu and other polytechnics, who applied for admission into the institution's Higher National Diploma, HND, for year 2011/2012, have petitioned the Director of State Security Services, SSS, in Enugu State and the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, over alleged admission racketeering.
Vanguard learnt that the police have interrogated the Chairman of the Admission Committee, Mr. Chris Ejiogu, while two other staff had been invited in connection with the reported saga during this year's admission.
But in a reaction to the allegation yesterday, the IMT Rector, Prof. Mike Iloeje, dismissed the petition as frivolous, saying the recently concluded admission was carried out by a special committee in compliance with laid down rules.
He also admitted that some stakeholders bothered him with very long lists of candidates seeking admission into the school, which he turned down.
Iloeje said he usually used his discretion to approve one or not more than two names within the 10 percent admission quota under his control so as to give other applicants an opportunity.
In a letter dated July 10, 2012, addressed to the Director SSS in Enugu State, copy of which was made available to newsmen, the students stated that they had earlier been assured by the new rector, Prof. Mike Iloeje that this year's admission would be based strictly on merit, adding that since they had scored 3.0 G.P and above, they believed his statement.
The petitioners said they had forwarded the same petition and "all the annexure" to the Executive Secretary of NBTE because they have been told that "Prof. Iloeje has allegedly lied to him about the true situation in respect of the 2011/2012 admissions in IMT."
