A member of the Osun State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Francis Famurewa, has called on Nigerians to vote leaders who have experience in politics in the 2011 election.
Famurewa who is aspiring to represent Atakunmosa East and West constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly, asserted that only those who have experience in politics can deliver the kind of representation that will yield positive results for the people.
In an interview with the Nation, the University of Lagos trained political scientist said governance should not be an all-comer affair, but an exclusive reserve of the best brains in the land.
"We cannot continue to allow people who have no idea about governance run the affair of the state just because we think politics is a dirty game. There is a maxim in politics that political apathy cannot be cured by political isolation, so those us who have experience in governance should participate actively".
Recalling his experience in the UK, where he worked for the London Bureau of Camding, Famurewa said governance in Nigeria needs to improve in order to deliver the dividends of democracy.
"When I returned to Nigeria, I observed the political scene for a while and saw that those in power were not doing what they were supposed to do. Government is about making laws that will affect the people positively; my coming into politics is to make a difference".
