Post by: sparrow on Dec 12, 2010, 03:01 PM
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji has said that he has not declared his intention to contest for the governorship of the state as reported in a national daily last Friday.

Ikuforiji who was reacting through a press release to the report said he was yet to declare his ambition for 2011 elections.

He maintained that he has not told anyone that he was contesting for any position, alleging that he was misquoted by the reporters. "What I said was that I am qualified to contest for any post," he said.

He further stated that such report was intended to discredit the activities of the House as well as blackmail it, and if possible, prevent the lawmakers from performing their legislative duty.

"I have not declared my political ambition as far as 2011 general elections is concerned. The report is just out to discredit what the legislators are doing. They will blackmail us because of what we are doing, but that cannot stop us from doing our job. Future generations will not forgive us if we fail to do what is right and proper at this moment. We will continue to perform our oversight functions without fear or favour and ensure the people are not shortchanged in reaping democratic dividends in Lagos State," the Speaker declared.
